Artists for the Barnes: Karen Kilimnik
Karen Kilimnik who is the only artist from Pennsylvania whose work is
in the Whitney Biennial this year has generously donated the entire
proceeds from her hand decorated print "The Matterhorn at Night,
Dreamland, 9pm, 3am, Zermatt 2007" to benefit our legal defense fund.
Ms Kilimnik had a retrospective at the ICA here in Philadelphia last
year in which her work was described as follows:
"Drawing correspondences between romantic tradition and consumer
culture, Kilimnik's work brings a haunting and contrary sense of
beauty to contemporary art. The world of the ballet and childhood,
romantic painting and pop music, icons of film and fashion, signs of
witchcraft, time-travel, and murder comprise an imagery that has been
culled from the historic and recent past into an unsettling present.
In a world where the forces of nature, youth, and terror, have taken
awesome hold, Kilimnik's art rematerializes a quest for the romantic
sublime."
In the print Ms. Kimimnik has donated to our campaign you can see this
'quest for the romantic sublime' in her depiction of the Matterhorn at
night.
ATTENTION COLLECTORS: This art work has all the ear marks of being a
very good investment.
